Our normally sweet and sunny baby recently went through her first cold, coupled with a newly developed intolerance for every bottle we owned and her formula. It took us 2 weeks to figure everything out! We ordered new bottles, bought the entire cold section at Buy Buy Baby, and finally switched from Enfamil Newborn to Enfamil GentleEase. We aren’t entirely sure which one was the cure, our guess is all of it together, but we finally have our perfect baby back! Knock on wood…

Tummy time is also going well, she has all kinds of tummy time devices.  We’re stocking up on baby toys marked 3+ months.  It’s hard to believe it’s almost been 3 months. Time flies when you’re suctioning noses and feeding a baby in a hot steamy bathroom!

Ally is 10 weeks old, it’s been a LONG week. She had her first cold, which didn’t really look like a typical cold.  She was just stuffy and it took us awhile to figure that out.  Once we did though and we started feeding her in what Nick refers to as the Sauna, she was able to eat and breathe.  Really we just fed her in the bathroom, which grossed Christina out a little bit. It was a good incentive to scrub that whole bathroom. Because Ally slept a lot more, we got a lot of home projects done.  We have so much stuff it’s incredible. Christina managed to sell quite a few things online, which is always fun.

Just as Ally’s cold was reaching its peak, she got her 2 month shots. This was not fun. She vomited up the oral vaccine which was supposed to be the easy part. So we’re not really sure she got that one. Her actual shots went pretty smoothly.  No one passed out and the only one that screamed and cried was Ally, although Mom, covered in baby vomit, was tempted to join her. Ah the joys of parenthood. Ally2months

Today, Ally is finally eating somewhat normally, although we’ve been through a bottle battle.  The cold has made her picky and fussy.  Our normally very happy eater was fussing through every bottle. So after some bottle and nipple changes and probably $60 later, she’s back to normal. Thank goodness. We’re not sure how parents of colicky babies do it. But God is good and Ally is on the mend.

We go on our first road trip with Ally tomorrow. She’s been up North, which is about 2.5 hours each way, but this is 5 hours each way and we might not survive.  Seriously, this baby doesn’t cry unless she needs something- food, nap, her mobile turned off. She’s an incredibly good baby. You put her in the car, she screams. She hates the car. So pray for us and wish us luck. Christina is IN the wedding so it’s up to Nick to watch little Ally. We’ll let you know how it all goes.

Ally is a whopping 13 pounds, 1 ounce and 23 inches tall!

Life with a  two month baby is going pretty well. Ally is so much fun and her little personality is starting to show through.  She loves snuggles and her bouncer.  She can follow toys with her eyes and likes feeling them with her little hands. She is starting to laugh at things, although it’s not a real laugh yet, we’re working on that. She smiles a lot and overall is a great baby.  Her first check up is next week so we’re excited to see what she weighs because this little baby is getting kind of heavy!

She just spent a few days up north with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Erik.  She had a great time and had LOTS of snuggles from everyone. Her first time away from Mom and Dad went pretty well and Mom and Dad got a much needed mini vacation to Pennsylvania.

We’re busy updating things around the house, cleaning out cupboards and closets and going through bins.  Boy do we have a LOT of stuff! This purge is way overdue and maternity leave is a great time to do it. Christina is busy reorganizing everything and Nick is working on the outside of the house weeding and weeding and more weeding.

Maggie is adjusting well to Ally, she likes to snuggle as close to her as possible.  She also likes to chew on Ally’s pacifiers and today Christina caught Maggie trying to steal it right out of Ally’s mouth. So that’s happening.

This month Christina is going to gradually transition back into working and should be full time back in July. We are truly blessed that we don’t have to deal with day care or child care of any kind!

Yesterday, Nick finally walked in his commencement ceremony for his MBA from Bethel University. He worked really hard, studying on weekends when he could have been golfing, sitting in class every Wednesday for two years. What a tremendous joy to see his accomplishment yesterday! Ally was great and slept through the entire thing, but no worries, we filmed it so she can watch it later.

Ally is 6 weeks old, I’m not sure where the last 6 weeks went! She’s gone through her first wonder week, the week of changing sensations. Basically she’s woken up to the world around her and has given us her first few smiles when we smile at her. Nick is IMG_2981really enjoying being able to interact with Ally.  Christina is too, but Nick didn’t really know what to do with her before. Ally is sleeping for 5-6 hour stretches. Or at least she was until she hit the 6 week growth spurt. This is supposed to last a few days but this is also peak fussy time. Oh joy. She has already outgrown all of her newborn things, and now is into 3 months clothing. She’s so tall, it’s a little crazy because we aren’t sure where she gets all that length from. Certainly not either of her parents!

Nick decided it was time to update the house… So we’re up to our eyeballs in projects. Nick loves being a “project guy”. Our house right now has half maroon shutters, half black. Christina is loving the new black shutters and can’t wait for them all to be up! The shed already looks great, thanks to Nick and Erik.

We’ve got new lighting and bathroom fixtures hanging out in the living room. Now we just have to get after those projects. Little by little, we’ll get it all done. Deck changes are in the wings as well, and new front door and basement door projects too! It’s going to be a busy summer!

It’s weird to think that we’re parents. It’s all still pretty new, so Mother’s Day was an odd experience. IMG_2909 (1)Ally and Christina went up to Duluth to the Mother Daughter banquet at church.  They had a fantastic time with the ladies at Northstar Baptist and Grandma Wilson.  They also got to see a bunch of old friends and catch up. The ride home was not nearly as bad as the ride home from McGregor last week, so that was a relief. And Grandma Wilson was there to make sure the pacifier didn’t leave Ally’s mouth.

Sunday we were all joined by Erik and Tarah and Grandpa Wilson. And Ruger. It was quite the get together! It’s so fun to be able to have the entire family together. We missed Seth, but he’ll meet Ally soon.

Ally decided that her gift to Mommy would be to sleep all night for the first time ever. IMG_2912Christina got 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep for the first time since probably the beginning of the 2nd trimester of pregnancy. So…November. It was glorious. Here’s to hoping she repeats this and Daddy can get some sleep too! Right now we’re alternating on the 11PM feed to see if we can’t start looking a little more human.
